Synopsis for Shanshan of the Mountain

 

A story about Shanshan, and somewhat about her mother.

 

Shanshan spends her summer vacations off university working her parents’ restaurant up on the steep slopes of Lanshan, located in Chengguan district of Lanzhou.

 

The mountains offer beautiful vistas above the city, and the mountain restaurant itself is visually interesting with its rustic qualities. The atmosphere in the restaurant is a very authentic and unique one. The height deprives the mountain from the city's traffic noise and smog, so even the soundscape is relaxing.

 

We follow Shanshan from early morning until the late evening, cleaning tables, serving customers and helping the other family members working at the restaurant. During the hectic day we have chance to chat up Shanshan about the relationship with her mother and her future plans, dreams and fears.
