(Work introduction)
In the heart of Shanghai, one of the world’s most dynamic cities, public transport serves as the invisible thread connecting millions of lives. The Floating City is an audiovisual essay that explores this constant flow through a poetic and symbolic lens, where the everyday intertwines with the mythical.
Inspired by the Chinese legend of the White Snake, the documentary draws a parallel between urban commutes and the hidden transformations dwelling beneath the city's surface. Trains, tunnels, and stations become a living labyrinth where passengers move like shadows, caught in a continuous motion that seems suspended in time.
Through sensory imagery and an omniscient narrative, the film invites reflection on identity, anonymity, and the relationship between tradition and modernity. Shanghai thus emerges as a floating city, where the visible and the invisible coexist in a delicate balance.
