影片灵感源自中国白蛇传说，将城市通勤之路，和潜藏在城市表象之下的种种蜕变形成对照。列车、隧道与车站组成一座流动迷宫，行人如影子般穿梭，陷入永不停歇的往复行进，时间好似在此静止。

影片运用极具氛围感的画面搭配宏观叙事，引发人们对身份、个体疏离感，以及传统与现代关系的思考。上海因此成为一座漂浮之城，看得见的俗世光景与藏于深处的精神世界，在此微妙共生。
